CBLOL 2024 Opening Show
CBLOL is the main League of Legends championship in Brazil and one of the biggest pillars of esports in the country. Over more than a decade, it has moved millions of fans and built a passionate community around the competition.
The 2024 edition marked a historic moment with the announcement of the end of CBLOL as an independent league and the transition to a new continental format. To celebrate this closing chapter, the opening show presented an emotional retrospective of all previous editions, without losing the power and energy of the great celebration that CBLOL has always represented, highlighting players, teams, fans and the culture created around the championship.
This project aimed to transform this farewell into a visual tribute to the legacy of the tournament, honoring its journey and its importance to Brazilian esports.
Translating all the years of CBLOL into a single visual language was a significant challenge. We developed new Key Visuals that reinterpret memorable moments and identities from the championship, using interference and glitch as narrative elements to bring the past back into the present.
Memories cut through time and materialize on stage, connecting different eras of the competition and honoring the legacy that shaped the history of CBLOL.
CBLOL 2024 Opening Show
An essential part of the project was developing a large manual glitch library to reveal and enhance the historical CBLOL footage. We created over 100 unique pieces with variations in timing, speed and texture, ensuring enough diversity to avoid repetition throughout the material.
These glitches were designed with controlled motion and slower pacing, bringing a sense of interference without becoming too frantic, and helping the past blend naturally into the visual language of the show.
Now is the time to put everything in the big Screen
Bringing this visual language to a screen of such massive scale required absolute precision. Every transition and glitch needed to be designed to work within the physical space of the arena and remain clear to the entire audience.
The project was developed in full sync with Ecko’s major trick in the opening, aligning narrative, timing and live performance to create a cohesive and impactful experience.
Being part of this project was a truly special experience. Working on something so large and complex, filled with technical and creative challenges, made every step even more rewarding. Revisiting Riot’s archival material and diving into the history of CBLOL offered a unique perspective on the cultural impact this championship carries.
It was inspiring to contribute to such an important chapter of CBLOL and help turn its history into a visual experience that connects past and present in a powerful way.
